The Army said it had arrested a nativedoctor, Tordue Gber (Tiv Swem), whoallegedly acted as spiritual counselorto the wanted armed criminal militia,Akwazar Terwase (alias Gana), inBenue.A statement by Brig.-Gen Sani Usman,the Director of Army Public Relations,on Tuesday, said the suspect waspicked up in Tor-Dunga town inKatsina-Ala Local Government Area ofthe state during a raid on his shrine.Usman said troops of 707 SpecialForces Brigade arrested Gber onMonday during the operation.It will be recalled that Terwase wasdeclared wanted by the securityagencies and has been at large since2016.“Preliminary investigation shows thatTordue Gber (Tiv Swem) acts asspiritual counselor that provides Ganawith “diabolical” powers and theshrine serves as hideout for wantedarmed militia, meeting and planningpoint for operations and logistics basefor the criminal armed militias thatoperate in Benue, Nasarawa andTaraba States.“The native doctor was arrested alongwith one of his accomplice, Atoo KuweFrancis, while planning to carry outan attack and abduct one Mr. Zaya atTse Bente village in the same localgovernment area,” he said.The army spokesman, however, saidTordue was shot dead “during thestruggle to disarm him.”Usman said the troops recovered alocally fabricated pistol, two barettaPistols, 11 rounds of 9mmammunition, three motorcycles andassorted charms from the shrineOther items recovered, he said werenclude clothings for concealingweapons, two mobile telephones andthree power generators, amongstother items at the hideout.
